Be a lover of truth, love people

I’m wondering if Luther was so drawn to this because he knew how unfree most Christians are to love well. I remember he once wrote that living the Christian life is like a drunk riding a horse. We keep falling off one side or the other, either into legalism, which chokes the freedom to love,
